Leon Barsoumian
(Chairman of the Board, President, & Selection
Committee Member)

Leon Barsoumian graduated from the School of Management
at Boston University with a major in Management
Information Systems. In college he was the Vice
President of the Armenian Student Association
for three years. One of his responsibilities was
to help lead fundraisers, and in this role, he
helped organize numerous successful fundraisers
where the Association exceeded its fundraising
goals. He has worked in financial services, retail,
e-commerce and advertising in marketing capacities
and most currenty is attending Babson College
MBA program in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Concurrently,
he assembled a talented team of executive and
board of directors to aid him establish and lead
The Armenian Scholarship Foundation.
He has traveled to Armenia to take part in the
world wide Armenian Jamboree in 1998 and has participated
in the 2001 World Games in Lebanon as part of
the Homenetmen (an Armenian nonprofit athletic
organization) East Coast U.S. track and field
team.
Leon is fluent in Armenian and French and has
been an active member of several other Armenian
nonprofits. He was an Armenian Boy scout leader
for 6 years, consulted Armenian boys and girls
scouts leaders on how to effectively manage a
group of youths and overcome conflicts. In his
spare time he enjoys reading, spending time with
friends and skiing.
Tsoleen Sarian (Board Member & Selection Committee
Member)

Following graduation from Merrimack College with
a B.A. in History and French, Tsoleen has worked
in the field of economic development first with
the Armenian Assembly Tree Project, then most
recently with Global Partnership for Afghanistan.
While pursuing a master's degree in Government,
she has also been active in political campaigns.
Tsoleen actively participates in the local Armenian
community, currently serving on steering committees
of the Armenian General Benevolent Union Young
Professionals of Boston, among others. She also
serves on the missions committee of her church.
She has traveled to Armenia 1994 and has competed
in the 1997 World Games as part of the Homenetmen
(an Armenian nonprofit athletic organization)
East Coast U.S. basketball team.
Tsoleen has played a very active role in the local
Armenian community as well, with affiliations
and positions with numerous organizations; often
in leadership capacities. Through these organizations,
she has planned various fund-raising events, as
well as written grants to supplement an organization's
small budget.
Edwin Zargarian (Board Member)

Edwin Zargarian graduated from Columbia University
with a B.S. in Operations Research. He currently
works at inCode Telecom Group, a wireless telecommunications
consulting firm, as a business strategy consultant.
Prior to inCode, Edwin worked at Salomon Smith
Barney as a financial analyst in the Global Telecommunications
Investment Banking Group. At Salomon, he worked
in teams advising large telecommunications clients
in raising capital in both public and private
markets and with potential strategic mergers and
acquisitions.
Edwin is fluent in Armenian. He has been active
in the Armenian community and has held positions
in various Armenian organizations in the Greater
Boston and New York areas.
Sabine Chouljian (Board Member & Selection
Committee Member)

Sabine Chouljian, a graduate from the University
of Massachusetts, Boston received her Bachelors
in Cultural Anthropology and Philosophy. Post
graduation, Sabine worked for the Armenian Library
and Museum of America for close to two years for
which her responsibilities and affiliations to
the local, as well as national Armenian community
ranged by organizing fund-raising events, exhibit
openings, academia lectures, educational workshops,
as well as the design and production of newsletters
and press-releases.
Sabine traveled to Armenia, summer of 2006, through
Birthright Armenia where she stayed with a host-family
for two months and worked for the Academy for
Educational Development in a newly established
program, Youth and Community Action Program. With
her skills on the computer, she was responsible
for the design and execution of the program’s
brochure. In addition, Sabine worked closely with
the Chief of Party and had the privilege of traveling
to over 10 villages in Armenia to meet the locals.
The Program focused on bettering their living
needs by best matching them with clean water systems,
help in the renovation of schools, and provide
them with English and computer classes, as well
as providing them with technological needs such
as establishing a youth center with a computer,
printer, digital camera and much more. Sabine,
who is fluent in Armenian, was also able to utilize
her skills to provide computer and language classes
to some of the village youth.
Sabine currently works for the Boston Symphony
Orchestra, as the Project Coordinator, BSAV in
the Development Department. She has a broad knowledge
of not-for-profit organizations and has been successful
in coordinating over 300 volunteers for major
events, assisted in raising over 1.2 million dollars
for large corporate events, and event planning
for private and public events between 200-3,000
people in attendance.
Her leadership and organization skills have proven
great success for the educational workshops –
such as “resume writing/editing, “how to get into
college” – lectures, and mentorship activities
planned for students of all ages in the last few
years. Sabine has been on the Board of the ASF
since 2002 with a focus in mentorship, educational
programming, event planning and fund-raising.
